‘Women in Leadership’ Masterclass with Janet Sellars, Director of HR for NASA

This week the Women in Leadership Cohort were treated to an informative and enthusiastic masterclass session. Our very own Cindy Scholts was joined by Janet Sellars (Director, Human Resources, NASA), Preet Grewal (Head of Inclusion and Diversity, JAPAC, Twitter) and Geetha Kannan (Founder and CEO, Wequity for Women and Technology) to talk about the journey of being a woman leader. The masterclass couldn’t have come at a better time, given it took place in March right around International Women’s Day. However, the discussions were a timely reminder that the struggle for gender equity and inclusion in the workplace are a year-round commitment requiring collective efforts.

Some of the key points that stood out:

- “Every drop makes the ocean less salty” — Geetha Kanan
- Become the SME (subject matter experts) learn, research, talk to other SME’s, no one should be able to out work you!
- There is no work-life balance at this point; it is work-life integration and work-life harmony
- Instead of being a bystander, become an up-stander!
- Strength in numbers and numbers cannot be ignored!
